Description
The Abelia 'Kaleidoscope'(s) (Abelia grandiflora) is a bushy, dense, upright, deciduous shrub with decorative, lance-shaped, light-green leaves edged in creamy white. Its yellow-red new growth is also an interesting sight. It also bears white, bell-shaped flowers from July to September. In a sunny to semi-shaded, sheltered position with well-drained, lime-free soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 1 m and spreads to approx. 90 cm.

Leaves
High ornamental value. The deciduous leaves of Abelia 'Kaleidoscope'(s) are light green, lanceolate and have a creamy-white margin. They are about 3–4 cm in size. Yellow-red new growth. Abelia 'Kaleidoscope'(s) turns a bright red in autumn.

Frost hardiness
Winter protection is required in unprotected areas of the garden. Potted plants are best overwintered in a frost-free place.

Growth
Abelia 'Kaleidoscope'(s) is a bushy, dense and upright-growing shrub. It usually reaches a height of 0.8–1 m and spreads to a width of approx. 60–90 cm. It generally grows 15–30 cm per year.

Water
The plant has a medium water requirement.

Location
Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady, wind-protected position.

Soil
Standard container plant soil. Normal soil.

Planting time
Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the ground is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).

Tasks
Fertilise potted plants: Every 2 weeks from March to September.

Care
Over time, the soil loses some important properties. The plants should therefore be transplanted into a larger pot with fresh container plant soil every two years in spring.

The white, bell-shaped flowers appear from July to September. They are about 3–4 cm in size and have a pleasant fragrance.
