Description
The Italian maple (Acer opalus) is a broad, rounded large shrub or small tree that produces lemon-yellow flowers arranged in clusters. These develop into greenish-brown winged fruits. The Italian maple also bears dark green leaves. Its green-and-red new growth is equally an interesting sight. Its bark is reddish-brown and smooth. In a sunny to semi-shaded position with well-drained, calcareous, sandy, loamy, dry soil, it usually reaches a height of around 12 m and spreads to around 10 m.
