Description
The Japanese maple 'Red Emperor' (Acer palmatum) is an upright, dense, deciduous large shrub with decorative, deeply slit, purple-red leaves. It also bears purple-red flowers arranged in clusters in May. These produce brown winged fruits. In a sunny to semi-shady, wind-protected location with well-drained, humus-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of around 6 metres and grows to a width of around 4 metres.
