Description
With its grey-green leaf colouring, Silver spear 'Silver Shadow' (Astelia chathamica) is a decorative design element in the garden, but with its dense and semi-hanging growth it also adorns containers on balconies or terraces. The yellow flower plumes adorn this grass from spring onwards. It feels most at home in a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained soil. In favourable conditions, this grass reaches a height of approx. 1.5 m and grows up to 1.2 m wide.

The leaves of the Silver spear 'Silver Shadow' are grey-green, lanceolate.

Frost hardiness
Winter protection is required in unprotected areas of the garden. Potted plants are best overwintered in a frost-free place.

Dense, semi-trailing.

Water
Water regularly and allow the soil to dry out in the meantime.

Location
Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

Soil
Standard container plant soil. Normal soil.

Planting time
Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the ground is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).

Care
- Excess water must be able to drain away easily and waterlogging should be avoided at all costs. - In harsh locations, sun protection is only recommended in the event of frost.

Flower
The yellow flowers appear from April to May.
