Description
The Common barberry (Berberis vulgaris) is a spreading, dense shrub that produces yellow flowers with a pleasant fragrance. They appear in May. These produce dark red fruits from September. They exude a pleasant fragrance. The Common barberry also has egg-shaped, medium green leaves. Its bark is grey. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, humus-rich, calcareous soil, it usually reaches a height of around 3 metres and grows to around 3 metres wide.
