Description
The Downy birch (Betula pubescens) is a large, roundish tree that produces pale yellow flowers arranged in catkins. They appear from April to May. These produce light brown fruits from August. The Downy birch also has egg-shaped, dark green leaves. Its bark is grey, rolling. In a sunny location, it usually reaches a height of around 20 metres and grows to a width of around 12 metres. The Downy birch makes no special demands on the soil.
