Description
The California allspice (Calycanthus occidentalis) is a shrub-like garden plant that produces purple-red, ray-shaped flowers with a strong fragrance. They appear from June to September. The California allspice also has lanceolate, medium green leaves. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, nutrient-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of around 3 metres and grows to around 3 metres wide.
