Description
The Camellia (Camellia sasanqua) is an upright, dense shrub that produces pink, red or white flowers with a strong fragrance. They appear from October to February. These produce green-red fruits. They exude a strong fragrance. The Camellia also has shiny, lanceolate, dark green leaves. In a sunny to semi-shady, wind-protected location with well-drained, humus-rich, lime-free, sandy, loamy soil, it usually reaches a height of around 6 metres and grows to around 4 metres wide.

Leaves
The evergreen leaves of Camellia are dark green, lanceolate, glossy and alternate. They are about 3 - 5 cm in size.

Frost hardiness
Winter protection is required in unprotected areas of the garden. Potted plants are best overwintered in a frost-free, bright place.

Growth
Camellia is an upright and densely growing shrub with an opaque crown. It usually reaches a height of 4 - 6 m and is approx. 3 - 4 m wide.

Water
The plant needs plenty of water. Do not allow the soil to dry out.

Location
Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady, wind-protected position.

Soil
Standard container plant soil. Normal soil.

Planting time
Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the ground is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).

Care
Excess water must be able to drain away easily and waterlogging should be avoided at all costs.

Flower
The pink, red and white flowers appear from October to February. They are strongly scented.
