Description
The Sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa) is a sprawling large tree that produces creamy white flowers with a strong fragrance. They appear from June to July. Brown fruits emerge from these from October. They exude a strong fragrance. The Sweet chestnut also has shiny, lanceolate, dark green leaves. Its bark is dark grey and fissured like a net. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, nutrient-rich, acidic soil, it usually reaches a height of around 30 metres and grows to a width of around 15 metres.
