Description
The Eastern redbud 'Carolina Sweetheart' (Cercis canadensis) is a sprawling, picturesque, deciduous large shrub with decorative, heart-shaped, dark green leaves with a white margin. The purple-red shoots are also an interesting sight. It also bears carmine-red, butterfly-shaped flowers from April to May. These produce brown, pod-shaped fruits. In a sunny location with well-drained, calcareous soil, it usually reaches a height of around 10 metres and is around 8 metres wide.
