Description
The Eastern redbud 'Flame' (Cercis canadensis) is a sprawling, picturesque, multi-stemmed large shrub that produces carmine-red, butterfly-shaped flowers. They appear from April to May. These produce brown, pod-shaped fruits. The Eastern redbud 'Flame' also bears heart-shaped, medium green leaves with dark green markings. The purple-red shoots are also an interesting sight. In a sunny location with well-drained, calcareous soil, it usually reaches a height of around 9 metres and grows to a width of around 7 metres.
