Description
The Eastern redbud 'Hearts of Gold' (Cercis canadensis) is a sprawling, picturesque, deciduous large shrub with decorative, heart-shaped, greenish-yellow leaves. The golden-yellow shoots are also an interesting sight. It also bears light purple, butterfly-shaped flowers in April. These produce brown, pod-shaped fruits. In a sunny location with well-drained, calcareous soil, it usually reaches a height of around 4 metres and is around 2.5 metres wide.
