Description
The Portugisische Heide (Erica lusitanica) will brighten up any garden with its countless white funnel-shaped flowers. From February onwards, it will be a delight in flower beds as well as in containers on balconies or terraces. The needle-shaped, light green leaves are also a beautiful sight.

Synonyms (botanical): Erica codonodes.
Leaves
The evergreen leaves of the Portugisische Heide are light green, needle-shaped.
Frost hardiness
The Portugisische Heide has good frost hardiness.
Growth
Portugisische Heide is an upright and broad-growing small shrub that can reach a height of 60 - 80 cm and a width of 1.2 - 2 m.
Water
Water regularly and allow the soil to dry out in the meantime.
Location
Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.
Soil
Erica lusitanica thrives on all acidic, sandy, peaty and boggy soils.
Planting time
Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the ground is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).
Care
A slow-release fertiliser can be used in spring. This releases the nutrients slowly and continuously so that the plant is evenly supplied over a longer period of time.
Flower
The white, funnel-shaped flowers appear from February to May.
