Description
The Common myrtle (Myrtus communis) is a very popular, evergreen container plant, whose black-blue, round fruits are possible with good care. Its decorative flowers are wheel-shaped and appear from July to September. They exude a pleasant fragrance. The dark green leaves are lanceolate and glossy. The location should be as sunny and sheltered as possible. A well-drained and nutrient-rich soil is ideal. In favourable conditions, the Common myrtle reaches a height of approx. 3 m and grows up to 3 m wide.

Leaves
The evergreen leaves of Common myrtle are dark green, lanceolate, glossy, with entire margins. They are about 1 - 5 cm in size.

South-east Europe.

Frost hardiness
Winter protection is required in unprotected areas of the garden. Potted plants are best overwintered in a frost-free, bright place.

Growth
Bushy.

Water
Water regularly and allow the soil to dry out in the meantime.

Preferred location in a sunny, sheltered position.

Standard container plant soil. Normal soil.

Planting: possible all year round (indoors).

Care
- Excess water must be able to drain away easily and waterlogging should be avoided at all costs. - Cut back boldly in spring so that the plant grows compactly.

Flower
Myrtus communis forms wheel-shaped, white flowers from July. These exude a pleasant fragrance.

Fruit
The black-blue, round berries of Myrtus communis are particularly decorative. They appear from September and are small.
