Description
The Black poplar 'Italica' (Populus nigra) is an upright, columnar, slender large tree that produces purple-red flowers. They appear from March to April. These produce white fruits from May. The Black poplar 'Italica' also has shiny, diamond-shaped, light green leaves. Its bark is dark grey and longitudinally furrowed. In a sunny to semi-shady location with calcareous, loose, nutrient-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 30 metres and grows to a width of approx. 5 metres.

Leaves
The deciduous leaves of Black poplar 'Italica' are light green, diamond-shaped, glossy, alternate. They are about 5 - 10 cm in size. Black poplar 'Italica' turns bright yellow in autumn.
