Description
The Black poplar 'Vereecken' (Populus nigra) is a large, upright, oval tree that produces red flowers arranged in catkins. They appear at the beginning of April. These produce green fruits from May. The Black poplar 'Vereecken' also has triangular, medium green leaves. Its bark is dark grey, deeply fissured and longitudinally furrowed. In a sunny to semi-shady location with calcareous, sandy, loamy soil, it usually reaches a height of around 25 metres.
