Description
The Kirishima azalea 'Blaue Donau' (Rhododendron obtusum) produces a veritable sea of purple flowers in May. Its winter-green foliage is dark green. This bushy, broad-growing shrub usually reaches a height of 60 - 70 cm and a width of 1.3 to 1.5 metres. A semi-shady (to shady) location and well-drained, nutrient-rich, acidic soil create optimum conditions for healthy growth. The Kirishima azalea 'Blaue Donau' is well tolerant of frost.
