Description
The Yakushima rhododendron 'Astrid'® (Rhododendron yakushimanum) produces a veritable sea of red flowers from late May to mid-June. This upright, broad-growing shrub usually reaches a height of 0.8 - 1 m and a width of 1 to 1.3 m. A semi-shady (to shady) location and a humus-rich, lime-free soil create optimum conditions for healthy growth. The Yakushima rhododendron 'Astrid'® is well tolerant of frost.

Pruning, ideally in February, is advisable for this plant.
Location
Preferred location in semi-shady to shady position.
Soil
Loose, humus-rich, sufficiently moist but water-permeable and well-aerated soil is preferred.
