Description
The Black elder 'Madonna' (Sambucus nigra) is a broad, loose, branched, deciduous large shrub with decorative, pinnate, green leaves with a light yellow edge. It also bears white flowers arranged in umbrella clusters from June to July. These produce black, round fruits from August. They exude a pleasant fragrance. In a sunny to semi-shady location with humusy, calcareous, loamy soil, it usually reaches a height of around 6 metres and grows to a width of around 5 metres.
