Description
The Japanese stewartia (Stewartia pseudocamellia) is an upright, fine-stemmed, picturesque large shrub that produces white, cup-shaped flowers. They appear from June to August. Brown capsules emerge from these from September. The Japanese stewartia also has egg-shaped, medium green leaves. Its bark is multi-coloured and peels off in irregular plates. In a sunny to semi-shady, wind-protected location with well-drained, humus-rich, acidic soil, it usually reaches a height of around 6 metres and grows to a width of around 4 metres.
