Description
The Western hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla) is a tree that grows in a conical shape and usually reaches a height of around 35 metres and a width of around 15 metres. Its needle-shaped, shiny leaves are dark green in colour. Decorative light brown cones adorn Tsuga heterophylla from September. This shrub tolerates frost well. It prefers well-drained, nutrient-rich soil in a semi-shady, sheltered position.

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the ground is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).

Care
- This plant is susceptible to snow pressure. In snowy areas, it is therefore advisable to wrap the branches with string. Otherwise, they may split apart and not fully recover. When the snow season is over, the strings must of course be removed again. - Watering less frequently, but thoroughly and thoroughly, encourages the plant roots to penetrate deeper into the soil. This helps the plant to survive periods of drought.

Fruit
The light brown, oval cones of Tsuga heterophylla are particularly decorative. These appear from September and the young cones have a purple-red colour.
