Description
The Feathered elm (Ulmus glabra) is a sprawling, roundish large tree that produces purple-violet flowers arranged in umbels. They appear from March to April. These produce green-brown, flat fruits from May. The Feathered elm also has rough, egg-shaped, dark green leaves. Its bark is grey and torn in strips. In a sunny to semi-shady location with calcareous, loose, nutrient-rich, moist to wet soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 35 metres and grows to a width of approx. 20 metres.

Leaves
The deciduous leaves of Feathered elm are dark green, ovate, rough, alternate, serrated. They are about 10 - 15 cm in size. Feathered elm turns bright yellow in autumn.
