Description
The Korkulme (Ulmus minor) is an upright, spreading large shrub with decorative, light brown, flat winged fruits. It produces reddish-brown flowers arranged in umbels from March to April. The Korkulme also has pointed, egg-shaped, dark green leaves. In a semi-shady, wind-protected location with calcareous, nutrient-rich, moist to wet soil, it usually reaches a height of around 5 metres and is around 4 metres wide.

The deciduous leaves of the Korkulme are dark green, pointed ovate, alternate, double serrated. They are about 4 - 10 cm in size. Korkulme turns bright yellow in autumn.

Korkulme is an upright and spreading large shrub with a closed crown. It usually reaches a height of 4 - 5 m and is approx. 3.5 - 4 m wide. Rapidly growing. Usually grows 30 - 40 cm per year.

The plant needs plenty of water. Do not allow the soil to dry out.
Location
Preferred location in partial shade, sheltered from the wind.
Soil
Normal soil.
Planting time
Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the soil is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).
Care
- A slow-release fertiliser can be used in spring. This releases the nutrients slowly and continuously so that the plant is evenly supplied over a longer period of time.
- Pruning wounds, saw cuts and broken branches should be treated with a wound sealant as soon as possible to prevent pathogens from entering the plant.

The red-brown flowers of Korkulme appear in umbels from March to April.
Fruit
The light brown, flat fruits of Ulmus minor var. suberosa are particularly decorative. These appear from May.
